Samara Peril Ilyon Chronicles Book 3 eBook Jaye L Knight

Ever since The King Scrolls (Book 2), I was eager for this book-- like many other lovers of the Jaye's Illyon Chronicles!
Of all the books in the Illyon Chronicles, this was my favorite by far!

In this new adventure, Jace is not only struggling with his past and identity as a half-ryrik, but the condition of his soul. His friends, including Kyrin and Rayad, want to help him, but Jace drifts further and further away in the darkness of guilt and shame. Then, while on a mission to investigate the emporer's plans for Samara, they learn a shocking discovery that changes Jace's life. (And that's just the tip of the iceberg!)

Soon, the adventure moves to the land of Samara, where "the battle in Jace's heart" and that for the freedom of the Samarians are about to rage on. Will Daican succeed? Will Jace finally turn to the One who is calling out to him?

I could go on about this book, but I don't want to spoil it! Therefore, I'll say that this book was both exciting and beautiful at the same time. Once more, Jaye L. Knight has woven faith, and the truth of God's eternal love in fantasy! There were scenes when I cringed, gasped, laughed, and nearly cried. One particular scene (I won't spoil it!) reminds me of a song, "This is How Love Wins" by Stephen Curtis Chapman. If you'd heard the song, you might figure it out when you get to the particular scene.

Overall, this was an amazing adventure worth waiting for and reading over and over again! Thanks, Jaye, for hanging in there through the craziness of an author's world and allowing God to help you through it!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book!

Samara Peril Ilyon Chronicles Book 3 eBook Jaye L Knight Reviews

This book was long. Half of if didnt seem to go along with the main story. I realize the author may just be "world building" but it slowed down the story. About half way through the book, the story takes off. While the first half is good in it's own right, it seems a whole different book from the second half. Though there much description of emotions here, it didnt slow the story too much. I would have preferred less description of emotions and feelings and looks, some of it does help the reader to gain insight into the characters.
This series continues to imbed itself in my heart. The characters feel like family, and I ache for their trials and disappointments, and rejoice in their triumphs. They continue to grow, sometimes in unexpected ways, and this world feels real. Without giving away too many details, I just want to commend Ms. Knight on the powerful redemption scene that brought me to tears. Reading it was even more powerful and personal than what happened in the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Bravo! I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series....
Really enjoying this series and I'm 57 years old. Nothing beats a story that's full of adventure, challenges, wit, humor and a Christian message about victory and facing adversity. What I really am impressed by are the large number of characters you get to meet and invest in just weaving that rich tapestry that just invites you to jump into and become part of the story. Someone else noted this as well saying it's a large cast of characters and places but somehow you never get lost or confused. Well done Jaye! Love it!
The world of Ilyon is beautifully crafted and the characters well rounded, especially Jace. How could our hearts not feel his pain at wondering if he even has a soul? The rebellion continues with war breaking out in Samara. Allegory arises. The love between Kyrin and Jace continues to grow. As Elon says at the end of the book “Sometimes adversity is what’s needed to produce faith.” Despite heart-wrenching trials, faith and trust continue to grow and we’re privileged to watch that growth. Action, adventure, and allegory. What more do we need?
This book was amazing just like the last 2.I loved Jace and his character development and that he finally told Kyrin how he felt about her or rather showed her how he felt. One small complaint was that I thought the battle on the ground near the end of the book could have been more descriptive like the air battle and maybe the sword fights could have been a bit better for example wording in the book would go like this "they traded blows for awhile before Jace found an opening and cut down his enemy" versus how it could have been "and Jace brought his sword up to block his opponents uppercut before using a two handed grip he swung his blade at his enemies right shoulder and the blade found its mark causing his enemy to cry out in pain stepping back to cradle his wound before Jace stabbed him through the chest ending the fight".See some good descriptions can inhance the moments of combat in many ways without being to graphic.
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book. I knew it was going to focus a lot on Jace and his struggles, and honestly, I didn't want an entire book of him refusing to cooperate. P And then I knew that there was going to be a redemption/Christ arc and I'm always kind of hesitant about those because sometimes it's done well and others... well.

Anyway. I shouldn't have worried. I really enjoyed this installment. There was some major plot development and quite a few "finally!!" moments. *cough-Jayrin-cough*

The redemption arc was good, but it did feel a little rush and kind of pushed into the story. But Jaye did a great job with it and I might have actually teared up a little with all the events surrounding it. Jace's struggles were a bit more "real" in this book compared to Book 1 and that really packed an extra punch especially in the second half. There was a lot of tension, especially in the second half. I loved all the new characters that were introduced. And I loved how we got to see some character development for Liam. He and Trev need more "screen" time, please!! )

So many great things happened in this book. A ton of plot moving and, as always, I'm really looking forward to the next book.
